bellydance bio
"Jodi is a dynamic artist that has been a part of my dance world for years now, performing and traveling with Beats Antique and assistant directing the Bhoomi Project. She is a versatile performer, and has much to teach about the technical and esoteric aspects of this form. Don't miss a chance to study with this amazing lady!" ~Zoe Jakes
Jodi started her prelude into bellydance in 1996, after being classically trained in western forms of dance and studying Jazz dance specifically in her teen years. Her first bellydance teachers were students at the Fat Chance Bellydance studio in San Francisco, so Jodi's base training came in the form of a fusion of folkloric styles.
In 2007, Jodi started studying with TerriAnne Gutierrez, an Egyptian and Lebanese style dancer. Jodi also performed as a key member in her troupe, Joweh R.A.W, and in 2010 travelled to Guatemala with the troupe as the featured Fusion instructor and performer.
Jodi started intensively training with Zoe Jakes in 2012, joining her troupe, the Bhoomi Project, and performing with her band Beats Antique. From 2013-2016, Jodi toured nationwide with Beats Antique as a featured dancer, assistant tour manager, wardrobe mistress, and merchandise coordinator. Jodi also co-directed/produced Zoe's House of Tarot project in Oakland, Ca in 2014, as well as being a performer in the production.
Jodi has also trained and performed with Ariellah and her troupe, Deshret Dance Co, is a former member of Dangerous Beauties Bellydance, and performs at restaurants and events. She is currently studying with Sharon Kihara in Portland, Or. She has placed in a number of bellydance competitions, taking 1st at the Breakthrough Fusion Competition in 2010. She is the featured performer in the May 2016 News From the Hip magazine.
