JODI WASECA
CONTEMPORARY FUSION DANCE
fire bio
Jodi started learning the art of fire performance in 2003 when friends needed a dancer for their new fire troupe. Intrigued by the possibility of more, but knowing that proper training was needed for safety and for progression, she took classes at the Crucible in Oakland, where she learned the industry's standard fire safety rules, the proper and safe way to make tools, and the correct fuels to use for different environments.
Jodi has made fire poi, staff, torches, fingers, collapsible fans (her own design) and parasols. Currently she performs with fire fingers, wands and fans, and incorporates fire eating into her fire performances.
Jodi filmed a fire safety and performance instructional DVD with World Dance NY that can be found online. Ordering information can be found here and a teaser reel can be viewed here.
Photos of fire performance can be found here!
